Honorata Van Gould

Description

Three part dress for 16" doll (Tyler Wentworth, Brenda Starr by Tonner).

Honorata Van Gould is a character from a book by Emilio Salgari and from a movie "The Black Corsair" (Il corsaro nero, Italy, 1976). The story is set in the half of 17th century, and Honorata's movie costume was interesting for me for the unusual colour /pattern combination. She  posed here as her own maid, so her dress was plain, without any embellishment.
Screen captures from the movie you can see here.

  • The dress  has tight-fitting, low pointed bodice, which originally was not stiff enough, so I attached to the inner side of the stomacher  triangular piece of a thin plastic. The bodice is lined  and fastens back with hooks and eyes. The ovrskirt is lined and cartridge pleated.

  • The separate flowered  underskirt is bell shaped in contrast with the overskirt, which is made from 2 rectangular stripes of fabric.

  • The pointed collar is trimmed with a fine lace and fastens at neck with  a tiny wire hook and thread eye.
    The outfit complement pink stockings and the white petticoat .

Used materials
  • For the gown I used a pink/yellow changeant shantung;

  • a bit paler and finer silk of similar colour for the lining of the skirt and the sleeves

  •  a white cotton battiste for  the collar, the petticoat and the cuffs;

  • a woven interlining and a piece of plastic to stiff the bodice.
